At CES 2007 show in Las Vegas, Sandio launched its
first product, the 3D Game O', a six degrees of freedom gaming
mouse, to showcase this technology. With this mouse gamers enjoy a
significant advantage as it allows them to navigate a 3D landscape
using the mouse alone, freeing the other hand completely.
Alternatively gamers who prefer using the keyboard to navigate can
assign hot keys to any of the 16 mouse buttons and switches.
The 3D Game O’ has
generated much interest from the medical, automotive, aerospace, and
military sectors as well as the gaming industry. In response to an
overwhelming number of requests from all of these areas Sandio will
begin supporting a wide variety of CAD and other applications in
summer 2007.
The 3D Game O’ already
supports other widely used 3D applications allowing users to fly
effortlessly through Google Earth or deftly create and manipulate
objects in Google SketchUp. The popularity and widespread use of
these applications show 3D is no longer only the realm of gamers,
engineers, and artists but is useful to everyone. All computer users
will soon realize a mouse limited to only two dimensions is
insufficient for manipulating 3D applications.
To help enable all 2D
input devices with 3D capability Sandio developed a 3D input chip
called the 3DEasy. This can be used by other device manufacturers to
enhance their current 2D devices. Sandio is working with peripheral
manufacturers in the United States and Japan to develop and sell 3D
mice under many brand names utilizing Sandio’s patented technology.
Headquartered in San
Jose, California, Sandio was founded in 2004. In order to take
advantage of globalization, Sandio has additional offices in Taiwan
and China responsible for international orders and development and
manufacturing respectively. Sandio owns patents granted in 1994,
1998, 2001, and 2003 in both the United States and Japan. Sandio
also has patents pending in the United States, Europe, Taiwan, and
China.
